Who we are

IHSSProviderReady.com is run by the same small, independent team that publishes IHSSHours.com, a California IHSS guidance site. We are not a government agency. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), any county, or any IHSS Public Authority.

We built this site for one audience: In-Home Supportive Services providers who treat care as a profession and want a simple way to show a new client they know how the program works.

What the certification is, and isn't

The Care Provider Readiness Certification is a private knowledge credential. You take a free 15-question quiz on how IHSS works day to day (hours and HTG rankings, timesheets, EVV and the ESP portal, documentation, protective supervision, provider rights). Pass with 12 of 15 and you can buy a dated certificate with a unique ID that anyone can check on our verification page.

It is not issued or required by CDSS or any county, and it does not replace county provider enrollment (SOC 426 and SOC 846), orientation, the Live Scan background check, or any clinical training. Think of it the way a client would: proof that you took the time to learn the rules before the first visit.

How our guides are researched

• Primary sources first. Program facts come from CDSS publications, All-County Letters, the Manual of Policies and Procedures, the Electronic Services Portal and county Public Authority pages. We link to them so you can check for yourself.
• Dated and reviewed. Every guide shows its publish date and is reviewed when CDSS changes a rule (for example, the paid sick leave increase to 40 hours in July 2024, or the end of parent-provider restrictions in February 2024).
• Plain language, two languages. Every page is written for providers, not policy analysts, and published in English and Spanish.
• No county-specific promises. Wages, phone numbers and enrollment steps on our county pages come from published CDSS data and county sites; always confirm your current rate with your county or Public Authority.

How we make money

The quiz is free. We charge for the certificate ($20, valid one year, optional $10 yearly renewal) and for Care Provider Advantage, a membership that keeps the certificate active and adds a provider card, the Provider Enrollment Kit and printables. We do not sell your information, and this site carries no advertising.
